WorldTeach was founded in 1986 by a group of Harvard students seeking to promote education at the local level in places that lack teachers and educational resources. We now send 400 volunteers each year to local schools and host communities in developing countries around the world. Since inception, we have placed over 7,000 volunteers in 28 countries, providing them with the teacher training, language preparation and field support, necessary to create lasting impact on the communities they work with.
WorldTeach envisions a world in which all children have access to a quality education that will expand their capabilities, increase their knowledge and skills, and deepen their understanding of themselves and others, so that they can build for themselves rich and productive lives. Further, WorldTeach envisions a world where people respect and care for each other across countries, cultures, and socioeconomic divides.
WorldTeach strongly believes that this vision can be achieved by bringing together people from different cultures, allowing them to know each other as friends, teachers, colleagues and community members. Further, WorldTeach believes that when language is shared and people can communicate directly with each other that this experience in global understanding is greatly enhanced.
